Dave started playing guitar in Chester in 1967 and early bands included 20th Century Reunion, Controversy and Sacrifice. The most successful were Controversy who started life as a rock band and developed into one of Northwales’ top variety acts with their own brand of comedy and sketches. They were signed “Sole management” by Ray Herbert of the Rainbow Enterprises entertainment agency with whom they stayed for many years. Highlights included supporting Pan’s People and Les Dennis.
In the late 70,s Dave moved to St. Neots in Cambridgeshire and could be seen most nights jamming at the “Queen Victoria” pub with good friend Ray Carter. Sadly the Queen Victoria is no longer there but Ray I am glad to say is still out gigging.
It was at one of these sessions Dave met up with Jeff Taylor (ex Billy J Kramer Dakota) to form “Private Line” who toured the USAF airforce base circuit throughout the South East in the late 70’s.
Dave’s solo career started at the “Crown & Cushion” pub in Great Gransden, a little known hot-bed of musical talent, when he was asked to get a music night off the ground. He did, both as a solo artist and with Private Line and adhoc guest appearances from Don Erie (Keyboards, Ozzy Osbourne ) and Mick Grabham (Lead Guitarist, Procul Harem).
Since then Dave has performed in Holland, Sweden, Italy and can be seen on the Algarve, Portugal three or four times a year where he has several residencies, noteably at the “O Artista” restaurant in Lagos and the “Galley” restaurant in Praia da Luz.
